Tiger Woods faces steep odds as the golf world heads to Augusta for the 2024 Masters
Tiger Woods celebrates winning the 2019 Masters during the final round of the Masters tournament at Augusta National Golf Club
April will see the 88th edition of The Masters Tournament, where the world’s best golfers will converge on Augusta National in hopes of taking home a share of the $18 million prize pool and perhaps a coveted green jacket.
Of course this is easier said than done. 2023 champion Jon Rahm would like nothing more than to become the first consecutive winner since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002. Meanwhile, tournament favorite and 2022 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, currently the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world, is currently one of the best golf courses plays from his career. He has won two tournaments in a row – The Players Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational – and has finished outside the top ten just once in the seven tournaments he has played in 2024.
It will certainly be difficult for the rest of the field to come out on top, but this year’s Masters will be worth watching nonetheless. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2024 Masters tournament.

Will Tiger Woods play in the 2024 Masters?
He will.
The list of participants on the tournament website and in the latest update of the Masters app, which went live on Wednesday, included five-time Masters winner Woods among the participants. Woods’ participation was expected given his insistence on scheduling around the four major championships this year. That said, don’t expect Woods to make much of a splash during the tournament.
Not only has Woods, 48, played just one full round leading up to the Masters, but during his appearance at the Masters last year, Woods withdrew on the third day of the tournament claiming he had aggravated his plantar fasciitis.
Masters odds 2024:
Here are the odds for the tournament winner. Odds via BetMGM, as of Thursday, March 21.
How good are Tiger Woods’ chances?
Woods is not expected to win the 2024 Masters. According to BetMGM, Woods is currently ranked 39th with the best odds to win the tournament, alongside Phil Mickelson, Chris Kirk, Si Woo Kim, JT Poston, Eric Cole, Nick Taylor and Nicolai Hojgaard.
Woods has made 23 consecutive appearances at The Masters, which is tied with Fred Couples for the all-time record. However, making cuts doesn’t mean Woods’ championship chances should be any better than they are now. Even when Woods reached Day 3 in 2023, he was still ranked 49th before withdrawing. Although he didn’t win the Masters until 2019, make no mistake, he’s a favorite to win this year’s tournament for a reason.
